Frequently asked questions

How do I find the new cave biomes?
The new cave biomes generate naturally when you explore caves in their corresponding surface biomes—for example, Icicle Caves appear under snowy biomes, Sand Caves under deserts, and Foliage Caves under jungles. Simply cave dive or mine downward in the biome you want to explore, and you'll eventually encounter the themed cave biome.
Why did my torches disappear in the Icicle Caves?
Placing torches on ice in Icicle Caves will melt the ice and wash the torches away with the flowing water. Use alternative light sources like lanterns, soul lanterns, or glowstone instead, or place torches on non-ice blocks.
What should I watch out for in Sand Caves?
Sand Caves can have floating sand blocks that will collapse if you remove supporting blocks beneath them, causing cave-ins. Mine carefully and support sand from below before removing blocks, or use water to safely clear sand.
Can I find these cave biomes in the Nether?
Yes, but only two Nether-exclusive cave biomes exist: Soul Canyons (in Nether Wastes and Soul Sand Valleys) and Quartz Canyons (in Crimson and Warped Forests). The other nine cave biomes are Overworld-only.
