Finding and Exploring Specific Cave Biomes

Locate the Right Surface Biome

Each cave biome spawns exclusively beneath specific surface biomes. Start by finding the surface biome you want to explore underground:

  • Icicle Caves: Snowy biomes (not mountains)
  • Sand Caves: Deserts
  • Swamp Caves: Swamps and mangrove swamps
  • Underground Forest: Oak tree biomes
  • Coral Caves: Warm ocean biomes
  • Foliage Caves: Jungles
  • Fungal Caves: Mushroom islands
  • Mesa Caves: Mesas
  • Underground Taiga: Spruce tree biomes

Dig Down to Find Your Cave

Once you're in the correct surface biome, mine downward until you break into a cave system. The cave biome will match the surface above it. If you don't immediately find a cave, try different locations within that biome—caves generate naturally but aren't guaranteed everywhere.

For Nether cave biomes (Soul Canyons and Quartz Canyons), you'll need to enter the Nether first, then find the corresponding Nether biome before exploring downward.
