Overview

Enchantment Descriptions is a lightweight client-side mod developed by Darkhax that improves the player's understanding of the enchantment system. While vanilla Minecraft provides names for enchantments, it offers no in-game explanation of their mechanics. This mod bridges that gap by injecting brief, informative descriptions directly into item tooltips. It is highly compatible, supporting nearly all modded enchantments and offering localization for over 15 different languages.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn on enchantment descriptions?
The mod works automatically once installed on the client — descriptions appear in item tooltips and on the enchanting table screen without any toggle. If nothing shows up, check that the mod is actually loaded and that no other tooltip mod is overriding it.
Why aren't descriptions showing on my enchanted books?
Descriptions only appear when you hover the book or open its screen, and only for enchantments the mod has text for. If a specific enchantment shows nothing, it's likely from another mod whose description hasn't been added yet.
Do other players need this mod for me to see descriptions?
No — it's client-side only, so you see descriptions on any server regardless of what others have installed. Nobody else needs the mod for your tooltips to work.
Can I see descriptions on the enchanting table before I commit?
Yes, the enchanting table screen shows what each offered enchantment does, so you can read the effects before spending levels. This is the main way to avoid wasting XP on an enchantment you don't want.
