Overview

Tinkers' Construct is a mod about putting tools together in a wide variety of ways, then modifying them until they turn into something else. The tools never disappear and can be named and changed to your heart's desire. Once you make them, they're yours forever. Many different materials can be used to make your tools.

This mod includes many related features, including:

  • Part builders, tinker stations, and modifier workstations for building and modifying your tools
  • The melter, alloyer, smeltery, and foundry for working with molten metals
  • Slime islands generating as part of the overworld, nether, and end, granting access to 4 different slime colors
  • Slimy geodes spawning deep underground
  • Cobalt ore in the nether

To get started, craft Materials and You then follow the introduction steps. For a more detailed overview, see one of the following links:

Frequently asked questions

How do you make tools in Tinkers' Construct?

Build tools from parts: shape a head, handle and binding from materials at the Part Builder, then assemble them at a Tinker Station. Each part's material sets the tool's stats.

Do Tinkers' Construct tools break?

No — the mod's tools never disappear. A worn tool is repaired with more of its material and can be renamed and re-modified freely, so you keep and improve one tool rather than replacing it.

How do you build a Smeltery?

Smelt Grout (sand and clay) into Seared Bricks, then build the Smeltery multiblock — walls, tank and controller — from seared blocks. A nether variant uses Scorched stone from Nether Grout.

Why use the Smeltery?

The Smeltery melts ores and metals and doubles ore output, and it casts tool parts and ingots using Casts made from Blank Sand Casts. It also makes alloys by combining molten metals.

What are modifiers in Tinkers' Construct?

Modifiers are upgrades applied to a tool at a modifier workstation, adding abilities and boosting stats. The available slots and modifiers depend on the tool and its materials, and you layer them as you gather rarer materials.

What materials can you use in Tinkers' Construct?

Many — vanilla metals plus the mod's own, including the slime family (Earthslime, Skyslime, Enderslime, Ichor, Cinderslime) and metals like Cobalt, Steel and Knightmetal, each giving parts a different trait.
