Safely Mining in Icicle Caves Without Losing Resources
Understand the Ice Hazard
Icicle Caves contain extensive ice patches, including blue ice on deepslate. The critical danger: torches melt ice blocks, which causes water to flow and wash away your torches and items.
Use Alternative Light Sources
Instead of torches, bring:
- Lanterns (hang them on walls or ceilings)
- Candles (place on blocks)
- Glowstone or glow lichen (place directly)
- Soul lanterns (if you have Nether access)
These light sources won't melt ice and won't create flowing water.
Mining Strategy
When harvesting ice blocks themselves, be cautious around frozen aquifers. If you break ice above water, it will flow downward. Consider mining from the sides or top to control water direction. Bring a bucket to manage unexpected water flows, and avoid placing any heat-producing blocks near ice patches.
