Distant Horizons Mod lets you see much farther in Minecraft without slowing down your game. It adds a smart system that shows simplified terrain beyond the normal view distance. This means you can finally enjoy the view from that tall mountain or tower you built without performance issues.

threadPresetSettingCPU Load | Modifies how many threads Distant Horizons' will use. Increasing this setting will increase the Distant Generator's speed and LOD loading speed, but will also increase CPU/memory usage and may introduce stuttering. Note: This is a CPU relative setting. It shou |
enableAdaptiveTransferSpeedEnable Adaptive Transfer Speed | Enables adaptive transfer speed based on client performance. If true, DH will automatically adjust transfer rate to minimize connection lag. If false, transfer speed will remain fixed. |
enableRealTimeUpdatesEnable Real-time Updates | If true, clients will receive real-time LOD updates for chunks outside the client's render distance. |
quickEnableRenderingEnable Rendering | If true, Distant Horizons will render LODs beyond the vanilla render distance. |
globalBandwidthLimitGlobal Bandwidth Limit, KB/s | Maximum global speed for uploading LODs to the clients, in KB/s. Value of 0 disables the limit. |
levelKeyPrefixLevel Key Prefix | Prefix of the level keys sent to the clients. If the mod is running behind a proxy, each backend should use a unique value. If this value is empty, level key will be based on the server's seed hash. |

loggingLogging | Controls how logging should be handled. |
maxGenerationRequestDistanceMax Generation Request Distance | Defines the distance allowed to generate around the player. |
maxSyncOnLoadRequestDistanceMax Sync on Load Request Distance | Defines the distance allowed to be synchronized around the player. Should be the same or larger than maxGenerationRequestDistance in most cases. |
multiThreading | Multi-Threading |
playerBandwidthLimitPer-player Bandwidth Limit, KB/s | Maximum per-player speed for uploading LODs to the clients, in KB/s. Value of 0 disables the limit. |
qualityPresetSettingQuality Preset | Modifies a number of graphical settings to quickly change Distant Horizons' rendering quality. Lower this setting if your GPU is at max usage or you are having framerate issues. |
generationRequestRateLimitRate Limit for Generation Requests | How many LOD generation requests per second should a client send? Also limits the number of client requests allowed to stay in the server's queue. |
syncOnLoadRateLimitRate Limit for Sync on Load | How many LOD sync requests per second should a client send? Also limits the number of client's requests allowed to stay in the server's queue. |
realTimeUpdateDistanceRadiusInChunksReal-time Update Radius in Chunks | Defines the distance the player will receive updates around. |
sendLevelKeysSend Level Keys | Makes the server send level keys for each world. Disable this if you use alternative ways to send level keys. |

Frequently asked questions
How do I turn on Distant Horizons after installing it?
The mod works automatically once installed, but you need to raise your Distant Horizons render distance in its settings menu to actually see far terrain. Open the mod's config screen and increase the LOD distance slider, then let the terrain data build up as you explore.
Why does Distant Horizons look blurry or low detail far away?
That's intentional — distant terrain is stored as simplified Level of Detail (LOD) data instead of full blocks to keep performance high. As you move closer, the LODs are replaced by real chunks, so the blurriness resolves itself when you approach.
How do I make Distant Horizons load terrain faster?
Explore the world normally so the mod can generate and cache LOD data for each area, and increase the CPU thread allocation in the mod's settings if your hardware allows it. Pre-generating chunks with a chunk pre-generator mod also helps a lot.
Does Distant Horizons work on servers and multiplayer?
Yes, but the server needs the mod installed for distant terrain to be sent to you automatically. On vanilla servers you can still use it, but LODs will only build from chunks your client has already loaded.
