How to Use Distant Horizons with Shaders

Compatibility Basics

Distant Horizons can work alongside shader mods, but not every shader pack supports it. You generally need a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine, plus a shader pack that has been updated to render Distant Horizons terrain.

Setting It Up

1. Install your shader loader and a compatible shader pack as you normally would.

2. Open the Distant Horizons config and make sure the shader compatibility option is enabled if one is present.

3. In your shader settings, look for a Distant Horizons or LOD-related toggle. Enable it so the shader knows to draw the far terrain.

4. Load into a world and check the horizon. If the distant terrain is missing, black, or flickering, the shader pack likely does not support Distant Horizons yet. Try a different pack.

5. If colors or lighting look mismatched between near and far terrain, adjust the shader's fog or atmospheric settings.

Troubleshooting

  • Disable shaders temporarily to confirm Distant Horizons itself is working.
  • Some shader features like certain water or cloud effects may not extend to LOD terrain.
  • Performance with both enabled is heavier, so lower your Distant Horizons distance if needed.
