How to Make Distant Horizons Load and Update Terrain Faster

Why Terrain Loads Slowly

Distant Horizons builds simplified terrain data as you explore. New areas need to be processed, and this takes CPU time and disk space. If you teleport or fly quickly, you may see gaps or outdated terrain until the mod catches up.

Speeding Up Generation

1. In the Distant Horizons config, look for options controlling how many chunks are processed per second or per frame. Raising the CPU load or thread count lets it work faster, at the cost of some performance.

2. Increase the amount of memory or buffer the mod is allowed to use if such an option exists, so it can hold more pending data.

3. Move around the world at a steady pace instead of teleporting. Walking or flying normally gives the mod time to build LODs for each region.

4. If terrain looks wrong after a big change (like a new build), trigger a refresh or reload of the LOD data from the config or a command if one is available.

Managing Storage

Distant Horizons stores its data in your world or save folder. Large worlds can produce big files. If you are low on disk space, reduce the maximum distance or clear old LOD data for worlds you no longer play. Back up your world before deleting anything.
