How to Fix Common Distant Horizons Problems

Terrain Looks Flat, Missing, or Wrong

If distant terrain appears as flat plains or does not match what you built, the LOD data is probably outdated or was never generated for that area. Walk or fly through the region so Distant Horizons can rebuild it. If you recently changed terrain with world edit tools or commands, the mod may not notice until you revisit the chunks. Some versions offer a way to clear and regenerate LOD data for a world; back up your save first.

Performance Drops or Crashes

A very large Distant Horizons render distance uses a lot of memory. Lower the distance, reduce the CPU load setting, and close other programs. If the game crashes on world load, try a smaller distance and check that you have enough allocated memory.

Multiplayer Issues

On a server, you only see distant terrain the server allows. If the server does not run Distant Horizons, you may see limited or no far terrain, or it may not match the server's world. Ask the server owner whether the mod is installed server-side.

General Checks

  • Make sure Distant Horizons is actually enabled in its config.
  • Confirm your shader pack supports it if you use shaders.
  • Restart the game after changing major settings.
