retiNO Mod makes Minecraft render at half resolution on Retina displays, which is probably enough for you anyway and has the advantage of not murdering your performance and its extended family.

Frequently asked questions

Does retiNO Mod work on Windows or Linux?
The mod runs without errors on Windows and Linux, but it doesn't actually do anything on those platforms because they don't use the same display scaling system as macOS. For Windows and Linux, use Resolution Control Mod instead to achieve similar performance gains.
How do I turn on half-resolution rendering?
Once installed, retiNO Mod activates automatically on macOS Retina displays—there's no configuration needed. The mod detects your display type and applies half-resolution rendering by default.
Will half-resolution make my game look blurry?
Half-resolution on a Retina display still maintains sharp visuals because Retina screens have such high pixel density that the reduced render resolution is barely noticeable to the human eye. You get the visual clarity of a Retina display with much better frame rates.
How much of a performance boost should I expect?
Performance improvement depends on your Mac's hardware and current settings, but rendering at half resolution significantly reduces GPU load since you're drawing roughly a quarter of the total pixels. Most players see substantial FPS gains, especially on older or lower-end Macs.
