How do I start a gateway?

Right-click a

Gate Pearl on a solid block to place and activate the gateway. Once placed, the wave encounter begins, so make sure you're geared up and standing where you want to fight before you use it.

What happens if I die during a gateway?

Dying ends your run and you lose the rewards from that gateway. The gateway itself doesn't follow you, so you'll need another

Gate Pearl to try again.

Do gateways drop loot?

Yes, surviving all the waves rewards you with loot tied to that gateway's theme. The better you perform and the tougher the gateway, the better the rewards tend to be.

Can I place a

gate pearl in the nether or end?

Gate Pearls can be placed in other dimensions, but the mobs that spawn are drawn from that gateway's own pool, not the surrounding biome. Just make sure you have room to fight and don't get cornered.
