How to Survive a Gateway Encounter Without Dying
Prepare the Arena First
Do not place a Gate Pearl in the open and hope for the best. Build or pick a flat area with room to back up, and light it so you can see spawns. Clear nearby hazards like lava or cliffs that mobs (or you) could fall into. Have a fallback spot — a raised platform or a corner — where you can retreat if a wave overwhelms you.
Gear and Consumables
- Wear your best armor and bring a strong sword or axe.
- Carry food that heals quickly, plus any potions you rely on.
- Keep blocks in your inventory to wall off a bad wave or plug a gap.
- Bring a ranged option for mobs that keep distance.
During the Fight
Focus on clearing each wave completely before relaxing — the Gateway will not stop until the encounter is finished. If a wave spawns something dangerous, deal with it first rather than spreading damage. Retreat to your fallback spot to funnel mobs into a line you can handle. Only collect drops after the Gateway closes, so you are not caught mid-pickup by a new wave.
