Frequently asked questions

How do I open the Crash Assistant screen if I closed it by accident?
The Crash Assistant screen appears automatically the moment Minecraft crashes, so if you closed it you can reopen the same logs from your game directory's crash-reports and logs folders. There is no in-game hotkey to bring the window back after a crash, so grab the files manually or trigger another crash if you still need the upload button.
Does Crash Assistant work if my game freezes or I force-close it instead of crashing?
Crash Assistant only triggers on an actual crash, not on a freeze or a manual force-close, because no crash report is generated in those cases. If your game just hangs, you'll need to find and share the latest.log manually.
Do I need Crash Assistant on my server too?
No, Crash Assistant is client-side only and does nothing on a server. Installing it on the server won't help and won't hurt, but only your own client will show the crash screen and upload logs.
Is it safe to click the upload button? What exactly gets sent?
The upload sends your crash report and game logs to a public log-sharing service and gives you a link anyone can open. Those files can contain your username, file paths, mod list, and sometimes server IPs, so review the link before posting it publicly.
