How to Check If Minecraft Is Using the Wrong GPU with Crash Assistant

A common cause of crashes and poor performance on laptops is Minecraft picking the integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU. Crash Assistant includes a GPU detection feature that flags this situation so you know it's a hardware selection problem rather than a mod conflict.

What the Detection Does

When a crash occurs, the mod checks which graphics device Minecraft was actually using. If it detects that the game is running on a weak integrated GPU when a stronger dedicated one is available, it surfaces that in the analysis section of the crash screen. This is especially relevant on dual-GPU laptops.

What to Do About It

1. Look at the analysis section of the crash screen for a message about graphics hardware.

2. If it flags the wrong GPU, open your operating system's graphics settings — on Windows this is under Display settings, and on Linux it depends on your driver.

3. Set your Java runtime or Minecraft launcher to use the high-performance / dedicated GPU explicitly.

4. On laptops, also check the manufacturer's control panel, which often overrides system settings.

5. Relaunch the game and, if it crashes again, check the crash screen to confirm which GPU is now in use.

Fixing GPU selection often resolves both crashes and low frame rates at the same time.
