How to Stop Hostile Mobs Spawning in Your Base with the Dread Lamp

The Dread Lamp is the TorchMaster block you want when you care about looks as much as function. It prevents hostile mob spawning in its area just like the Mega Torch, but it is designed to blend into builds instead of standing out as a giant torch.

What the Dread Lamp Actually Does

Like the other TorchMaster lights, the Dread Lamp creates a zone where hostile mobs cannot naturally spawn. It does not kill mobs that already exist, and it does not stop mobs from wandering in from outside the zone. Think of it as a spawn-suppression field, not a force field.

Crafting and Placing

Craft the Dread Lamp using the recipe shown in JEI/REI for your version — it is built around the Frozen Pearl, the same core ingredient as the other TorchMaster lights. Place it where you want the center of protection to be. Because it is a lamp, you can hide it in ceilings, under floors with a gap, or inside decorative fixtures without ruining the look of a room.

Using It Alongside Normal Lighting

You still want ordinary torches and lamps for visibility. The Dread Lamp handles spawning; regular light handles you being able to see. Combine both: light your base normally, then drop a Dread Lamp in the middle of each major room or courtyard to shut down spawns in the gaps.

Checking Your Coverage

If you find mobs in a corner of your base, that corner is probably outside the lamp's radius. Add a second Dread Lamp rather than relocating the first, and overlap the two zones slightly for full coverage.
