How to Enter the Betweenlands for the First Time

Crafting the Portal

To reach the Betweenlands you need to build a portal frame out of Betweenstone Bricks and light it with a Swamp Talisman. Betweenstone Bricks are crafted from Betweenstone, which you obtain by first visiting the dimension — so the very first trip requires a different route. The intended method is to find a naturally generated Betweenlands portal in the overworld, usually inside a small ruined structure, or to use the Swamp Talisman on a completed frame if you already have one.

Surviving Your First Minutes

Once you step through, expect a hostile, humid swamp. Bring a full set of iron armor, plenty of food, torches, and a decent weapon. The dimension has its own day/night cycle and dangerous mobs like Swamp Hags, Blood Snails, and Lurking Horrors. Do not wander far from the portal on your first visit — mark it with torches or a waypoint. Collect Betweenstone, weeds, and any flora you can safely gather, then return home to start crafting proper gear. The Betweenlands has its own tool tiers, so overworld tools will feel weak; plan to upgrade quickly using Betweenstone and later Betweenlands-specific materials.
