How to Use Upgrade Modules: Filtering, Smelting, Compacting, and Voiding
Where Upgrades Go
Every Sophisticated Storage chest, barrel, and shulker box has dedicated upgrade slots in its GUI. Open the block and look for the row of slots on the right. Place upgrade modules there. Most upgrades stack or combine, so you can run several at once.
Common Upgrade Modules
- Filter Upgrades (Basic and Advanced): Restrict which items the container accepts. Configure the filter list in the upgrade's settings screen.
- Pickup Upgrades (Basic and Advanced): Automatically collect nearby dropped items into the container. Advanced versions have a larger radius.
- Magnet Upgrades (Basic and Advanced): Pull items toward the player or container from a distance. The Advanced Magnet has a wider range.
- Smelting, Blasting, and Smoking Upgrades: Automatically cook items as they enter the container, mimicking a furnace, blast furnace, or smoker.
- Compacting and Advanced Compacting Upgrades: Combine items into their compressed forms (for example, nuggets into ingots, ingots into blocks) as they are stored.
- Void Upgrade (Basic and Advanced): Delete items that match a filter instead of storing them — useful for cobblestone or junk overflow.
- Hopper Upgrades (Basic and Advanced): Push or pull items to and from adjacent inventories automatically.
- Pump Upgrade: Moves fluids between containers.
- Feeding Upgrade: Feeds the player from food stored in the container.
- Jukebox Upgrade: Plays music discs stored inside.
- Alchemy Upgrade: Applies potion effects using stored ingredients.
Practical Tips
Combine a Filter Upgrade with a Void Upgrade to keep only useful items. Pair a Pickup Upgrade with a Smelting Upgrade so ore drops are cooked the moment they land in the chest.
