How to Combine and Upgrade Enchantments to Higher Levels
Leveling Enchantments with the Anvil
Many So Many Enchantments enchantments have multiple levels, and the standard way to raise a level is anvil combining. Two items or books with the same enchantment at the same level combine into the next level up, exactly like vanilla Sharpness or Efficiency.
Steps
1. Obtain two enchanted books with the same mod enchantment at the same tier. Books are the easiest source because you can bank duplicates.
2. Place both books in an anvil, one in each slot. The output shows the enchantment at one level higher.
3. Take the output. Repeat with more duplicates to climb further, up to that enchantment's maximum level.
4. To apply the result to gear, combine the leveled book with your item in the anvil.
Managing Anvil Costs
Each combine adds prior-work penalty, so costs rise quickly. To keep costs down:
- Combine books together first, then apply the finished book to gear once, rather than applying each level separately to the item.
- Use the enchantment storage block to consolidate duplicates before combining.
- Rename items only when necessary, since renaming adds to the penalty.
Notes
Not every enchantment has multiple levels; some are single-tier. Check the tooltip to see the current level and whether a higher one exists before spending materials on combining.
