Villagers drop trade items when killed by any damage source—player, mob, fall, fire, etc. The drop chance and items are determined by the mod's mechanics regardless of how the villager dies.

Villagers drop items from their trade inventory—the items they buy or sell. A librarian might drop paper or books, a cleric might drop redstone or glowstone, depending on their profession and trades.
