How to Handle Spawners and Traps in Better Dungeons

Dealing With Spawners

Spawners are the main obstacle in every Better Dungeon room. Approach them from the side or above rather than head-on, and break them with a pickaxe as fast as possible. If mobs are already spawning, back into a corridor, block yourself in with a one-block gap, and kill mobs through the gap until the room is clear enough to reach the spawner. Light level does not stop spawners, so torches alone will not disable them; you must break the block.

Recognizing and Disarming Traps

Watch for pressure plates, tripwire, and dispensers aimed at walkways. Before stepping into a new room, scan the floor and walls from the doorway. If you spot tripwire, break the string from a distance with an arrow or by mining the supporting block. For pressure plates, place a block over them or mine them out. Dispensers can be disabled by breaking them or by cutting their redstone line if you can trace it.

Safe Clearing Routine

Use a consistent routine for every room: light the entrance, scout from the doorway, disable traps, break spawners, then loot. Keep a water bucket ready to wash out fires or push mobs away from a chokepoint. If a room is too dangerous, seal it and come back with better gear rather than dying inside.
