YUNG's Better Dungeons Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I know if a dungeon has been changed by this mod?
Better Dungeons replaces vanilla dungeon generation, so any dungeon you find in newly generated chunks will use the mod's layouts instead of the classic single-room mossy cobblestone box. If you're standing in a dungeon that looks like the old vanilla one, you're probably in chunks generated before the mod was added.
Do I need to generate a new world for Better Dungeons to work?
Yes for the most part — the mod changes world generation, so dungeons in already-generated chunks keep their old layout. You can still find Better Dungeons by exploring into chunks you've never loaded before.
How do I find a Better Dungeon without wandering forever?
They spawn underground like vanilla dungeons but are much larger, so caving, mining, and exploring ravines or mineshafts that intersect them are the most reliable ways to stumble in. Listening for mob noise through walls also helps, since the rooms are big enough to echo.
Why does the dungeon look like a normal dungeon from the outside?
The entrance often still resembles a vanilla dungeon room, but once you break through you'll find branching corridors, multiple rooms, and themed loot areas beyond it. Don't assume it's a one-roomer just because the first chamber looks familiar.
What's the best way to not die immediately in a Better Dungeon?
Bring torches, a shield, and blocks to wall off corridors, because the redesigned rooms are larger and can hold more mobs than a vanilla dungeon. Clear spawners one at a time rather than charging into open rooms, and keep an escape route behind you.
How do the spawners work in these dungeons?
Spawners still function like vanilla ones, but they're placed in rooms designed around them, so lighting them up or breaking them quickly is the priority. Some rooms may have multiple spawners, so check corners and side chambers before assuming a room is clear.
Are there traps in Better Dungeons?
Yes, the redesigned layouts include trap elements alongside the spawners, so watch your step in corridors and around chests. Disarming or avoiding them usually means looking carefully before walking through doorways or pressure-plate-looking areas.
Where is the best loot in a Better Dungeon?
Loot is spread across multiple chests in different rooms rather than concentrated in one spot, so explore the whole structure instead of grabbing the first chest and leaving. Deeper or more heavily guarded rooms tend to hold the better rewards.
Does Better Dungeons work with other dungeon or structure mods?
It generally coexists with other structure mods since it's replacing vanilla dungeon generation rather than adding a new structure type, but overlapping structures can sometimes cause odd generation. If you see broken or merged dungeons, that's usually two mods trying to place something in the same spot.
Will Better Dungeons hurt my performance?
The mod itself is lightweight since it's just changing dungeon layouts, but the larger rooms mean more mobs and more loaded blocks when you're inside one. If you notice lag, it's usually from the mob density in a big room rather than the mod's generation.
