How to Choose the Right Material for Your Spartan Weapon
Understand material stats
In Spartan Weaponry, the material you build a weapon from determines its damage, durability, and sometimes speed or reach. Vanilla materials follow familiar tiers: wood is cheap and weak, stone is a slight upgrade, iron is the reliable mid-tier, gold is fast but fragile, and diamond is the top vanilla option. If you run mods like Thermal Foundation, Tinkers' Construct, or similar, their metals (bronze, steel, signalum, manyullyn, etc.) become available as weapon materials too, often with unique trade-offs.
Match material to weapon class
Heavy weapons like warhammers, battleaxes, and halberds benefit most from high-damage materials because their slow swing already commits you to big hits. Fast weapons like daggers, rapiers, and throwing knives benefit from materials with good durability so you aren't repairing constantly. Polearms reward reach more than raw damage, so a mid-tier material with decent durability is often enough.
Check before you commit
Because recipes consume the full material cost, preview stats in JEI/REI before crafting. Hover the weapon to see its damage and durability values. If a material is rare or expensive, craft a cheaper version first to test whether you like the weapon's moveset, then upgrade. Keep a spare of your main weapon in a chest — losing a diamond halberd in lava hurts more than losing an iron one.
