Fixing Farmers That Won't Replant After Harvesting

Common causes

If your farmer harvests a crop but never replants, the problem is usually one of three things: the seed is not recognised, the farmland is not valid, or the farmer cannot reach the planting spot.

Step-by-step troubleshooting

1. Confirm the crop is fully grown when harvested. Farmers only replant on empty farmland, so make sure there is at least one tilled, empty block in the plot.

2. Check that the seed item exists in the farmer's inventory. Drop the seed near the farmer or stock a nearby chest. If the farmer has no seed, it cannot plant.

3. Make sure the farmland is hydrated and lit. Dry or dark farmland can stop planting behaviour in some setups.

4. Look at the configuration. Smarter Farmers has options that control replanting behaviour, and a misconfigured option can disable replanting for certain crops.

5. Test with a vanilla crop like wheat first. If wheat replants but the modded crop does not, the issue is the modded seed registration, not the farmer.

Still stuck?

Remove any other villager-AI mods that might override farmer behaviour. Two mods editing the same farmer task can cancel each other out, leaving a farmer that harvests but never plants.
