WITS Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I use the WITS mod to find out what structure I'm standing in?
Stand inside the structure and type /wits in chat. The command prints the registry names of every structure at your current position, which usually includes the mod ID in the name.
What's the difference between /wits and /witsop?
/wits only checks the structure at your own position and works for any player. /witsop lets server operators check any coordinate in any dimension by specifying the dimension and coordinates.
How do I check a structure at specific coordinates as an operator?
Use /witsop followed by the dimension and the coordinates, for example the overworld, nether, or end plus your X, Y, and Z values. You need operator permissions to run it.
Why does /wits say nothing or return a blank result?
You're probably not standing inside a structure that the vanilla /locate command can find. Small features like dungeons, desert wells, and other minor generated features aren't tracked as structures, so WITS can't detect them.
Does WITS detect dungeons, desert wells, or mineshafts?
No. WITS only detects structures that the vanilla /locate command recognizes, so small features like dungeons and desert wells won't show up. Mineshafts and other locatable structures should work.
Can I use WITS on a multiplayer server?
Yes, /wits works for all players on servers as long as the mod is installed on the server side. /witsop requires operator permissions and also works server-side.
Do I need to be an operator to use /wits?
No, any player can run /wits to check their own position. Only /witsop, which checks arbitrary coordinates, requires operator permissions.
The structure name I got doesn't match the mod I expected — why?
Registry names reflect the mod that actually registered the structure, which may differ from the mod that added the blocks or mobs you see. Check the namespace before the colon in the name to identify the owning mod.
Does WITS work in the Nether or the End?
Yes. /wits works in any dimension you're standing in, and /witsop lets operators specify the dimension explicitly when checking coordinates.
Will WITS slow down my game or conflict with other mods?
WITS only runs when you type a command, so it has no ongoing performance impact. It reads structure data the game already tracks, so conflicts with other mods are unlikely.
