Troubleshooting More Mobs: Heads Not Working or Mobs Not Changing

Common causes

If applying a head does nothing, work through these checks in order.

1. Wrong base mob. The head only converts its matching entity family. A piglin head will not affect a zombie.

2. Mod not loaded. Run /mods or check server logs to confirm More Mobs initialized.

3. Head is a vanilla player head. Only the mod's custom heads trigger conversion. A normal player head placed on a mob will not work.

4. Config disabled. Some servers disable head drops or conversions. Check the mod's config file.

5. Client rendering. On a vanilla client the mob may look unchanged visually but still behave differently. Install client-side for full visuals.

Verifying a conversion

Spawn a fresh base mob in a controlled area, apply the head, and observe AI and drops. If the mob reverts on chunk reload, the head may not have been consumed correctly — reapply and confirm the head is removed from your inventory.

When to reset

If a variant misbehaves, remove the head or kill the mob and respawn a fresh base mob. Keep backups before large conversions.
