How to Get Flat, Uniform Lighting on Every Block Face
What the mod actually changes
Simply No Shading removes the directional darkening that vanilla Minecraft applies to block faces pointing away from the light. With the mod active, a block's top, sides, and bottom all render at the same brightness instead of the usual gradient. This is a global visual change, so there is nothing to toggle per block — once the mod is loaded, the effect is applied everywhere.
Getting the cleanest result
1. Launch the game with the mod in your mods folder and confirm it loaded by checking that a wall of the same block (for example stone bricks) shows no darker side faces.
2. If you still see shading, check for other rendering or shader mods in your mods folder — external shader packs override vanilla face lighting and will hide the effect.
3. Remove or disable any shader pack you have selected in video settings, then reload the world.
4. Set your brightness slider in Options > Video Settings to a comfortable level; because shading is gone, a mid-range brightness usually looks best and avoids a washed-out look.
Things to expect
Caves and enclosed rooms will look noticeably flatter and brighter than you may be used to, since walls no longer darken with depth. If that bothers you, lower the brightness slider rather than trying to re-enable shading.
