Simply No Shading Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn on the no-shading effect after installing the mod?
The mod applies its flat lighting automatically once it's loaded, so there's nothing to toggle in a menu. If you still see shaded faces, check that the mod is actually enabled in your mod loader and that no other lighting or shader mod is overriding it.
Does this mod work with shaders?
No — shader packs replace the vanilla lighting and rendering pipeline, so they will override the mod's flat lighting. Disable your shader pack if you want the uniform no-shading look.
Why do some blocks still look shaded?
Blocks that use their own custom rendering, like some modded blocks or entities, may not be affected by the mod's lighting changes. Also make sure you're not running a resource pack or another mod that re-adds directional shading.
Do clouds and block entities get the flat lighting too?
Yes, the mod is designed to remove shading from clouds and block entities as well as regular blocks. If clouds still look shaded, another mod that changes cloud rendering is likely conflicting.
Will this mod hurt my FPS?
Removing shading is a lightweight change, so performance impact is minimal and some players even see a small improvement. Any slowdown is more likely from other mods running alongside it.
Is this mod compatible with OptiFine?
It was inspired by OptiFine's old internal shader lighting, but running both at once can cause conflicts since OptiFine also touches lighting and rendering. If you use OptiFine, test carefully and disable its shader or lighting options.
Can I use this on a server with friends?
This is a client-side visual mod, so it only changes what you see — other players won't be affected. You can use it on any server as long as the server allows client-side mods.
Does it work in the Nether and End?
Yes, the flat lighting applies across all dimensions since it changes how faces are rendered rather than dimension-specific lighting. Dimension fog and ambient effects may still be visible.
How do I turn the effect off without uninstalling?
There's no in-game toggle, so you disable it the same way as any mod — through your mod loader's mod list or by removing it from your mods folder. Restart the game for the change to take effect.
Why does my world look flat and washed out now?
That's the intended effect — removing face shading makes everything uniformly bright, which can reduce depth cues. If you want some contrast back, try pairing it with a resource pack that adds texture detail rather than relying on lighting.
