Fixing Shading That Still Appears After Installing the Mod

First, rule out the usual culprits

If faces still darken after adding Simply No Shading, the mod is almost certainly being overridden rather than failing. The most common cause is an active shader pack, which replaces the entire lighting pipeline. The second most common cause is a resource pack that supplies custom block or entity models with baked-in shading.

Step-by-step troubleshooting

1. Go to Options > Video Settings and set shaders/pack selection to none or internal, then reload the world.

2. Disable all resource packs except the default, reload, and look at a plain stone wall. If shading is gone, re-enable packs one at a time to find the offender.

3. Check whether another lighting or rendering mod is installed. Two mods editing the same lighting code can conflict; disable the other one and retest.

4. Confirm the mod is actually loaded — if you use a mod list screen, search for it there. A mod that failed to load will silently do nothing.

5. Reload the world fully (leave to the main menu and re-enter) rather than just pressing F3+A, since some lighting changes only apply on world load.

If it still fails

Test in a brand-new world with only this mod installed. That isolates whether the problem is the mod or your pack combination.
