Revelationary Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I get started with Revelationary if I just installed it?
The mod does nothing on its own, so you need to either install a modpack that uses it or write your own revelation datapack. Start by creating a datapack with a revelations folder under your namespace, then link each revelation to an advancement that controls when it becomes visible.
Why isn't anything happening after I installed the mod?
Revelationary is a library-style mod and intentionally makes zero changes to vanilla by itself. You need a datapack or another mod that declares revelations, otherwise there is nothing for it to reveal.
Where do revelation files go in my datapack?
They go in resources/data/ /revelations inside your datapack. Each file declares the disguised block states or items and points to the advancement that gates their visibility.
How does Revelationary decide when to reveal something?
Every revelation is tied to an advancement, and the mod watches each player's advancement progress. Once a player earns that advancement, the disguised blocks or items become their real counterparts for that player.
Is visibility per-player or global on a server?
Visibility is tracked per player, so one player can see the revealed version while another who hasn't met the criteria still sees the disguise. This is what makes it useful for progression modpacks on multiplayer servers.
How do I disguise a block so it looks like stone until a boss is beaten?
Declare a revelation that maps the real block state to a disguised block state like stone, and link it to an advancement that players earn by defeating the boss. Until that advancement is granted, players see and interact with the disguise.
Can I disguise items in inventories and recipes too, not just blocks?
Yes, revelations can map items as well as block states, so an item can appear as a placeholder until the linked advancement is earned. This lets you hide crafting ingredients or loot behind progression milestones.
My revelation isn't triggering — what are common mistakes?
The most common causes are a wrong advancement ID, a malformed file path under data/ /revelations, or the advancement never actually being granted. Double-check that the advancement exists and that players can earn it in your pack.
Does Revelationary work alongside other progression or worldgen mods?
Yes, it's designed as a compatibility layer, so it doesn't replace progression mods — it just controls visibility based on advancements those mods grant. As long as the gating advancement exists, Revelationary can hook into it.
Will having lots of revelations hurt server performance?
The mod is lightweight because it only swaps visibility based on advancement state rather than constantly scanning the world. Performance impact is generally minimal, though very large numbers of revelations and frequent advancement changes can add some overhead.
