Random Village Names Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I get village names to show up in my world?
Village names are generated automatically when a village is created or loaded, so you don't need to enable anything. Just walk into a village and look for the sign in its center, which displays the randomly chosen name.
Where exactly is the village name sign placed?
The sign is placed in the center of the village, near the village's meeting point. If you can't find it, use the /areas command to highlight nearby area signs.
Can I change the name a village was given?
Yes. Break or edit the existing sign and write your own text on it, and the village will use that name instead. The mod reads whatever is on the sign, so any text you put there becomes the village's name.
How do I remove a village name entirely?
Place an empty sign in the same position as the name sign, or clear the text from the existing sign. With no text on the sign, the village effectively has no displayed name.
Why does it say "Entering" before the village name?
The "Entering" prefix comes from the Areas mod, which handles the area display system this mod relies on. You can change or remove that prefix through the Areas mod's config options.
How do I find a village's name without hunting for the sign?
Run the /areas command while near a village. It shows all area signs around you, including the village name, so you can read it from the chat output.
Does this mod work on existing villages in a world I already made?
Yes, villages that already exist will get names when they're loaded. If a village doesn't seem to have a sign, move closer to its center or reload the area so the mod can place one.
Can I add my own names to the list the mod picks from?
The names come from a preset list bundled with the mod, and the intended way to customize a specific village is to edit its sign rather than the list. If you want fully custom names, rename each village's sign manually.
Will this mod conflict with other mods that change villages?
It works alongside mods that add or alter village structures, since it just places a sign at the village center. Conflicts are most likely with mods that also place signs or manage area displays at the same spot, so check for overlapping signs if names don't appear.
Does the mod cause lag or performance problems?
No, it only places a sign and reads its text when a village loads, so the performance impact is negligible. If you notice issues, they're more likely from the Areas mod or other village-related mods running at the same time.
