Nomowanderer FAQ

20 questions players actually ask, answered.

What does the Nomowanderer Mod actually do?
It adds three items — the Anti-Solicitor Talisman, the No Soliciting Sign, and the Trader Rug — that stop wandering traders from approaching and offering trades at your base. Place or hold them where you don't want traders to bother you.
How do I get started with Nomowanderer?
Craft any of the three items (the sign, rug, or talisman) and place or carry it near the area you want protected. Once it's active, wandering traders will avoid that spot instead of walking up to you.
What's the difference between the sign, rug, and talisman?
All three block trader solicitation, but they differ in how you use them: the sign and rug are placed in the world as blocks, while the talisman is an item you keep on you. Pick based on whether you want a fixed protected zone or personal protection that travels with you.
How do I craft the Anti-Solicitor Talisman, No Soliciting Sign, and Trader Rug?
Each item has its own recipe using common early-game materials, and the exact ingredients are shown in your recipe book or JEI/REI once you have the mod installed. Check the crafting guide in your recipe viewer for the precise layout.
Do wandering traders still spawn if I use Nomowanderer?
Yes — by default the mod stops traders from approaching and soliciting at your base, but it doesn't necessarily remove them from the world entirely. You can configure it so traders still spawn elsewhere if you want them to exist without bothering you.
How do I configure Nomowanderer so traders still spawn somewhere?
Open the mod's config file and adjust the options that control trader spawning and blocking radius. This lets you keep traders in the world while preventing them from reaching your protected area.
Can I use commands to manage wandering trader blocking?
Yes, the mod includes commands for managing how traders are blocked. Use them to check or change blocking behavior without editing config files by hand.
Why are wandering traders still showing up at my base?
The most common cause is that your sign, rug, or talisman isn't placed or held close enough to the area you want protected, or it's outside its effective range. Make sure the item is active and positioned where traders actually approach.
Does Nomowanderer work with other mods and is it performance-friendly?
It's a lightweight mod that only affects wandering trader behavior, so it generally plays well with other mods and has minimal performance impact. Conflicts are rare, but if trader-related mods behave oddly, check load order and configs.
Does the talisman work if I keep it in my inventory or do I need to hold it?
The talisman protects you as long as it's active in your possession, so you don't need to hold it in your hand. Keep it in your inventory and it will block trader solicitation around you.
What does the Nomowanderer Mod do?
It adds blocks and items that prevent and control Wandering Trader spawns. This includes blocking configured entity spawns near a block, preventing trader spawns around a player, and redirecting trader spawns to a set location.
What items and blocks does Nomowanderer add?
The mod registers three things: the anti-solicitor talisman, the no soliciting sign, and the trader rug.
How do I stop Wandering Traders from spawning in Nomowanderer?
Use the No Soliciting Sign, which prevents configured entity spawns within a configurable distance in chunks of the block. The Anti-Soliciting Talisman also prevents Wandering Trader spawns around the player when it is in a Baubles slot, Curios slot, or anywhere in your inventory.
How does the Anti-Soliciting Talisman work?
It prevents Wandering Trader spawns around the player when carried in a Baubles slot, Curios slot, or anywhere in your inventory. You can toggle it on or off by shift right-clicking the talisman.
How does the Trader Rug work?
If a Wandering Trader spawns within the radius of the rug, it will instead spawn on top of the rug block. This lets you set the spawn location of Wandering Traders nearby.
What is the default radius for Nomowanderer blocks and items?
The radius option in nomowanderer-common.toml defaults to 8. It is the effective range of the mod's items and blocks, and the Anti-Soliciting Talisman uses the same distance as the No Soliciting Sign.
Which entities does Nomowanderer block by default?
The entityWatchList blocks configured entities from spawning within the radius of a No Soliciting Sign. By default this list includes the Wandering Trader, the Plague Doctor from the Rats mod, and the Red Merchant from Supplementaries.
Can I customize which entities Nomowanderer affects?
Yes. The entityWatchList option in nomowanderer-common.toml controls which entities are blocked from spawning within the radius of a No Soliciting Sign. If an entity is not blocked, its spawn will be moved to a Trader Rug if it is within the rug's radius.
What Minecraft versions and loaders does Nomowanderer support?
The mod supports Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge. It is available for Minecraft 1.21.6, 1.21.7, 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10, and 1.21.11.
What commands does Nomowanderer add?
It adds four functions: /function nomowanderer:setup_rug, /function nomowanderer:setup_sign, /function nomowanderer:setup_spawncap, and /function nomowanderer:setup_talisman.
