How to Reduce Performance Cost of Metals Ultra PBR and POM
Understand What Costs the Most
Parallax Occlusion Mapping is the heaviest part of this pack because it samples the texture multiple times per pixel to fake depth. PBR reflections add further cost. If your framerate drops after enabling the pack, POM settings are the first place to look.
Lower Parallax Settings
Open your shader settings and find the parallax/POM section:
- Reduce parallax samples or steps — fewer samples means less depth accuracy but noticeably better performance.
- Lower parallax depth/resolution if the option exists.
- If the shader allows it, disable POM entirely while keeping PBR on; you keep the shine and reflections but lose the raised surface detail.
Trim Other Costs
- Lower your render distance and shadow resolution, since PBR reflections interact with lighting.
- Reduce shader quality presets to a lighter tier.
- If you only care about the metal shine, consider disabling parallax globally and keeping PBR, which is the cheaper of the two effects.
Find a Balance
Test changes one at a time on a world with lots of metal blocks and ores visible. Adjust until the framerate is stable; the pack's visual gain is mostly in the reflections, so keeping PBR while trimming POM usually gives the best trade-off.
