How to Enable PBR and POM for Metals Ultra in Minecraft

Check Your Shader Support First

Metals Ultra relies on PBR (Physically Based Rendering) and POM (Parallax Occlusion Mapping) to deliver its signature shine and depth. These features only appear when a compatible shader pack is active. Without shaders, the pack still loads, but metals will look like ordinary flat textures. Install a shader pack that supports PBR and parallax (most modern shaderpacks do), then enable it through your shader loader's menu.

Turn On the Right Settings

Once a shader is running, open its settings and look for options labeled along the lines of:

  • PBR / LabPBR resources — must be ON so the pack's normal and specular maps are read.
  • Parallax / POM / Parallax Occlusion — enable this to get the raised, three-dimensional surface detail on metal blocks.
  • Parallax depth or samples — if your shader exposes this, raise it slightly for stronger depth, but lower it if you notice shimmering or performance drops.

Verify It Is Working

Place a vanilla metal block (iron, gold, copper) or a modded metal ore in front of you and move the camera slowly. You should see shifting reflections and a subtle sense of depth on the surface. If everything looks flat, re-check that the resource pack sits above other packs in your resource pack list and that the shader is actually the active one.
