Item Rename Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I rename an item?
Hold the item in your main hand and execute `/rename ` where ` ` is what you want to call it. The item's display name will update immediately.
What's the difference between the item name and lore?
The item name is the single line displayed in bold at the top of the tooltip (changed with `/rename`), while lore is the descriptive text below it (managed with `/addloreline`, `/setloreline`, etc.).
How do I add multiple lines of lore to an item?
Use `/addloreline ` for each line you want to add—each command appends a new line to the bottom of the existing lore.
Can I edit a lore line that's already on the item?
Yes, use `/setloreline ` where line numbers start at 1 for the first lore line. This replaces that specific line without affecting others.
How do I remove a line of lore?
Hold the item and execute `/removeloreline ` where the line number corresponds to the lore line you want to delete (counting from 1).
What if I need to insert a lore line in the middle without replacing anything?
Use `/insertloreline ` to insert a new line before the specified line number, shifting all following lines down.
How do I make an item look enchanted without actually enchanting it?
Hold the item and execute `/glow` to add the enchantment shimmer effect; this works on any item regardless of whether it has real enchantments.
Do I need to be in creative mode to use these commands?
No, the mod works in both survival and creative mode, though you'll typically use it in creative when designing custom items for maps.
Will renamed items keep their custom names and lore if I drop them or put them in a chest?
Yes, all custom names and lore are saved to the item's NBT data and persist through drops, storage, and inventory transfers.
Can I use color codes or formatting in item names and lore?
Yes, the mod supports Minecraft's standard formatting codes (like `&c` for red or `&l` for bold); check your mod's documentation for the exact syntax it uses.
