Item Highlighter Mod FAQ

16 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I know which items are new in my inventory?
Newly picked-up items show an animated star over their slot in your inventory. The star appears automatically the moment you acquire the item, so you don't need to enable anything to see it.
Where do I change the Item Highlighter settings?
Open the mod's config screen, which you can reach from the mod list or the in-game config menu if your mod loader provides one. All the marker behavior and color options live there.
Why did the star disappear when I hovered over the item?
By default the mod clears a marker once you hover over that item, treating it as 'seen.' If you want the star to stay until you close the inventory, change the removal behavior in the config.
How do I keep the stars visible until I close my inventory?
In the config, set the marker removal to happen on inventory close instead of on hover. Then every new item keeps its star for the whole session until you exit the inventory screen.
Can I make the star match the color of the item's name?
Yes. In the config there's an option to tint the icons to match item name colors rather than using the default golden color. Turn that on and the star picks up the rarity or name color of each item.
How do I turn the stars off completely?
Disable the highlighting feature in the mod's config, or remove the mod entirely if you don't want any of its behavior. If you only want to stop the stars but keep other settings, toggle the highlight option off rather than uninstalling.
Does Item Highlighter work on servers or only in singleplayer?
It's a client-side mod, so it works wherever you play, including on servers, as long as the server allows client-side mods. The highlighting is purely visual and doesn't change gameplay.
Will this mod hurt my FPS or cause lag?
The mod only draws a small animated icon over inventory slots, so its performance impact is negligible. If you notice stutter, check for conflicts with other inventory or UI mods rather than the highlighter itself.
Why aren't new items getting stars anymore?
You may have hovered over them already, which clears the marker by default, or the highlighting option got turned off in the config. Check both the removal-on-hover setting and whether the feature is enabled.
Does Item Highlighter conflict with other inventory mods?
It generally plays fine with other inventory and HUD mods since it only overlays a star icon. If two mods draw in the same slot area, you might see overlapping visuals, in which case adjust one mod's display settings.
What does the Item Highlighter Mod do?
It displays an animated star over newly picked-up items in your inventory so you can spot them quickly. This is especially useful when managing large amounts of items.
How does the mod help players with large inventories?
It marks recently acquired items with an animated star, making them easy to locate among many other items. This simplifies identifying new items without searching manually.
Can I change how the highlight markers behave?
Yes, configuration options let you remove markers for new items when closing the inventory or when hovering over them. This lets you control when the highlights disappear.
Can I change the color of the highlight icons?
Yes, you can adjust the icons to match item name colors or keep the default golden color. This is done through the mod's configuration options.
What does the animated star indicate?
The animated star appears over items you have newly picked up in your inventory. It helps you quickly identify the most recently acquired items.
Is the highlight color always golden?
No, the default is golden, but you can configure the icons to match item name colors instead. This gives you flexibility in how the highlights look.
