Item Descriptions Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I view an item description?
Hover your cursor over any item, block, or entity in your inventory or in the world and hold the Ctrl key. A tooltip with the description will appear alongside the normal item info.
Which key opens the description tooltip?
The default key is Ctrl. Hold it while hovering over an item to reveal its description; release it to hide the tooltip again.
Can I change the description key to something else?
Yes. The keybind is configurable in the mod's controls settings, so you can rebind it if Ctrl conflicts with another mod or your keyboard layout.
Descriptions are not showing up when I press ctrl
Check that the keybind hasn't been changed or taken by another mod, and make sure you're hovering directly over the item. If it still fails, verify the mod is actually loaded for that world and check for conflicting tooltip mods.
Why do some modded items have no description?
The mod provides generic descriptions for many tags, but items that don't match a known tag or aren't covered by the mod's data may show nothing. This is expected for obscure or very new modded content.
Does this mod work with modded items and blocks?
Yes, it supports modded content by giving generic descriptions based on item tags, so many modded blocks and items will still show something useful even without a hand-written entry.
How do I use descriptions to learn a modpack?
Hover over unfamiliar items as you find them and read the description to learn what they're for and where they come from. This lets you explore a pack without constantly alt-tabbing to a wiki.
Do descriptions show for entities and mobs too?
Yes. The mod adds descriptions for entities as well as blocks and items, so you can hover over a mob to get a short explanation of what it is.
Will this mod hurt my performance or fps?
Descriptions are only looked up when you hold the key and hover an item, so the impact during normal play is minimal. Any noticeable lag usually comes from other mods or a heavily modded pack, not this one.
Does it conflict with other tooltip mods like jei or waila?
It generally coexists with tooltip and recipe mods, but if descriptions overlap or fail to appear, check the keybind and load order. Temporarily disabling other tooltip mods can help isolate a conflict.
