How to Configure Dynamic Surroundings for Better Performance

Dynamic Surroundings adds a lot of ambient effects, and on lower-end systems those effects can cost frames. The mod includes an in-game config screen so you can tune each feature instead of disabling the whole thing.

Opening the Config

Open the mod list from the main menu or pause screen, find Dynamic Surroundings, and open its config. Most settings are grouped by category: fog, aurora, biome sounds, footstep sounds, and general performance. Changes usually apply immediately, but a few require a world reload.

Trimming the Heavy Features

Start with fog and aurora rendering, since these are the most visually demanding. Lower the fog density or disable specific fog types you do not care about. If you use shaders, disable the mod's own fog so the two do not stack. Next, reduce the sound event frequency or mute categories you find noisy, like cave drips or biome ambience. Footstep sounds are cheap to keep. If you still need more headroom, turn off particle-heavy effects such as falling leaves or dust. Test each change in a busy area like a forest or cave, since that is where the mod does the most work. Keep a note of what you changed so you can revert if the world feels too empty.
