Dynamic Surroundings Resource Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I know Dynamic Surroundings is actually working?
Load into a world and listen for ambient biome
sounds, birdsong, or wind that vanilla doesn't play, and watch for fog and aurora effects at dawn, dusk, or night. If you hear nothing, check that the pack is enabled and that its sound volume sliders aren't turned down.

Open the
Dynamic Surroundings configuration screen and toggle the individual sound categories off rather than muting the whole mod. Each category (footsteps, biome
sounds, weather, cave effects) has its own switch so you can keep the visuals while silencing the audio.

Fog density is controlled by the mod's fog settings and is often amplified by biome or weather conditions. Lower the fog intensity in the config or disable biome-specific fog if you want clearer visibility while keeping other effects.
Does Dynamic Surroundings work with shaders?
It can run alongside shaders, but both mods touch fog and sky rendering, so you may get doubled fog or broken auroras. If visuals look wrong, disable the mod's fog and sky effects and let your shader pack handle those instead.
Why did my FPS drop after installing this?
The biggest culprits are fog rendering, particle-heavy effects, and the frequency of ambient sound triggers. Reducing fog quality, lowering the effect update rate, and trimming the number of active sound categories usually restores performance.
How do I make auroras appear?
Auroras show up at night in certain biomes and latitudes, and they depend on the mod's sky effects being enabled. If you never see them, check that aurora rendering isn't disabled and that you're in a cold or high-latitude biome after dark.
Can I use this on a server with friends?
Yes, but each player needs the pack installed client-side to see and hear the effects, since it's a visual and audio enhancement rather than a gameplay mod. Server-side configs won't force the effects on clients that don't have it.
Why do my cave sounds play even when I'm on the surface?
Cave ambience is triggered by how enclosed your position is, not strictly by Y-level, so overhangs and tight terrain can trigger it above ground. You can raise the enclosure threshold in the config or disable cave
sounds entirely if it bothers you.
sounds entirely if it bothers you.How do I stop the mod from overriding my other sound mods?
Conflicts usually come from two mods both registering the same sound event, so pick one to handle each category. In the config, disable the overlapping categories in
Dynamic Surroundings and let the other mod take over.

Turn off fog and aurora rendering first since those are the heaviest, then reduce the ambient sound trigger rate and disable particle effects. Keep only footstep and basic biome
sounds if you still want atmosphere without the cost.
