Power your machines with engines and kinesis pipes

Most machines in this mod run on mechanical energy from engines. You need to know which engine to use and how to move its power to the machine.

Choose an engine

  • Redstone engine: the cheapest option. It runs when it receives a redstone signal, and it gives low output.
  • Stirling engine: burns solid fuel such as coal. It gives more output than the redstone engine.
  • Combustion engine: burns liquid fuel and needs water for cooling. It is the strongest, and it can overheat if the coolant runs out.

Connect the engine

1. Place the engine directly against the machine. The engine's output face must point at the machine. Right-click the engine with a wrench to rotate it if it doesn't connect.

2. If the machine is far away, place a kinesis pipe and attach the engine to it. Power flows along the pipe to the machine at the other end.

3. Feed the engine. For a Stirling engine, open its GUI and add fuel. For a combustion engine, pipe in fuel and water.

4. Watch the engine's heat indicator. If it runs hot, add cooling or reduce the load.

Troubleshooting

  • If nothing moves, check that the engine is switched on. Redstone engines need a signal.
  • Don't put an engine against a block that cannot accept energy, because the power is wasted.
  • If one engine can't keep up with a hungry machine, add more engines feeding the same line.
