Build Craft Community Edition Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get started with Build Craft?
Start with the basics: a wrench, some transport pipes, and an engine. Build a simple power chain first (engine feeding a kinesis pipe) before attempting a quarry or oil setup. Most of the mod's machines are useless without power, so that comes first.
My quarry isn't doing anything. Why?
The usual causes are no power reaching it, an area that isn't defined properly, or no space or inventory to output into. Check that your engine is running and connected by kinesis pipes. Then make sure the quarry's area is set as the guide describes and nothing is blocking the frame.
How do I mark the area for a quarry?
Use the markers to outline the region you want dug, following the placement steps in the quarry guide. Once the quarry is placed and powered, it builds a frame around the area and starts mining inside it. Clear the area of obstructions first, and place the quarry so it faces the right direction.
Why is my engine not producing power or stopping?
Engines need a fuel source or redstone signal, depending on the type, and they need a valid receiver such as a kinesis pipe or machine next to their output face. If the engine has nowhere to send energy, it can overheat and stop. Use a wrench to rotate the engine so it faces the pipe or machine.
How do I move power from an engine to my machines?
Place the engine against a kinesis pipe and run the pipe to your machine. Different kinesis pipe types vary in how much energy they carry and how far, so use sturdier ones for heavy consumers like quarries. Keep the pipe run short and direct to avoid losing power.
How do I find and pump oil?
Look for oil lakes and oil springs generated in the world. Place a pump on top of the oil with power supplied to it and a pipe or tank to receive the fluid. The pump extends a tube down into the oil and draws it up.
What do I do with oil once I've pumped it?
Raw oil isn't directly useful as fuel. Pipe it into a refinery to process it into fuel, then feed the fuel to a combustion engine for stronger power. Use fluid pipes, not item pipes, to carry the oil.
Why won't my item pipes pull items out of a chest?
Basic transport pipes only carry items. They don't pull them out of inventories on their own. Use a wooden pipe against the chest to extract items, and give it power if it needs it. Then run other pipes from it to your destination.
How do I hide my pipes with facades?
Facades are crafted items that you apply to a pipe to make it look like a chosen block. They only change the appearance, so the pipe still works underneath. You can still use a wrench on the pipe when you need to change its behavior.
Does a big quarry cause lag, and how do I avoid it?
Large quarries and long pipe networks can slow the game, especially with many items in transit. Keep quarry areas reasonable, avoid long chains of item pipes, and remove clogged pipes. Make sure the quarry's chunks stay loaded, or it will pause while you're away.
