Move items with pipes and hide them behind facades

Pipes are the backbone of any factory. They take items out of chests, carry them across your base, and drop them into machines or storage. Facades then make the pipes look like part of the wall.

Build a basic item line

1. Place a wooden pipe against a chest. Wooden pipes extract items, but they need power to do it, so put an engine next to the pipe.

2. Add ordinary pipes (cobblestone or stone) to carry items to where you want them.

3. End the line at another chest, a machine, or an open end that drops items.

4. To change what a pipe does, swap its type. Gold pipes speed items up, and diamond pipes sort items using filters.

Cover pipes with facades

1. Craft the facade for the block you want to imitate.

2. Hold the facade and right-click a pipe. The facade attaches to that side.

3. Repeat on each side you want covered. The pipe still works underneath.

4. Use a wrench on the pipe to reconfigure or inspect it.

Tips

  • Keep the source chest from overfilling the line. Items can back up if the destination is full.
  • Leave a visible section of pipe near junctions until you are sure the layout works, then cover it.
