Decide What's Worth Recycling
Evaluating Recycling Efficiency
Not every iron item is worth smelting. Understanding the recovery rate helps you decide what to recycle and what to discard or repurpose.
High-Value Targets
Items crafted from four or more ingots return a full ingot when smelted. These include anvils, minecarts, and similar large items. Recycling these is almost always worthwhile, especially if they're damaged or no longer needed.
Lower-Value Items
Smaller items like chains, rails, and iron bars return nuggets. While still valuable, the return is smaller. Decide based on your current iron needs and storage space.
Decision Framework
If you're low on iron, recycle everything. If you have abundant iron, focus on high-value items to save furnace time. Consider batch-smelting: collect items over time, then smelt them all at once for efficiency. Damaged tools are always good candidates since they're no longer useful and would otherwise be wasted.
