How to Spot a Leader Zombie in a Crowd

Leader zombies are deliberately made obvious, so you rarely need to guess. The most reliable tell is a glowing red aura wrapped around the zombie, similar to the charge effect on a creeper. On top of that, leader zombies use unique textures and are rendered at a larger size than ordinary zombies, so they stand out even at a distance or in a dark cave.

Look at the name tag above the mob as well. The mod adds a "Leader" prefix to the boss zombie's name, which is the fastest confirmation when several zombies are packed together.

Separating the Leader from the Pack

When a group of zombies is chasing you, back up and scan for the one with the aura and the bigger hitbox. The helpers around it will look normal by comparison. If you are fighting in tall grass, water, or a crowded mob farm, the red glow is usually the only cue you can see through the clutter, so train yourself to look for that first.

Once you have identified the leader, decide whether to kill it first or thin out the helpers. Killing the leader removes the buffed threat, but the surrounding zombies may still call reinforcements, so keep an escape route open.
