How to Survive the Lava Halls Under a Better Nether Fortress
The Lava Halls are the underground extension of the fortress and the most dangerous part of the structure. They are built around and over lava, so falling is the main threat, not just mobs.
Gear up before you descend
- Fire resistance potions are close to mandatory. Drink one before entering, not after you are already burning.
- Bring plenty of building blocks for bridging over lava gaps.
- A water bucket does not work in the Nether, so do not rely on it to save you from a fall.
- Feather falling on your boots softens mistakes.
Moving through safely
Bridge across open lava rather than jumping. Light up corridors as you go so you can see edges and mobs before they see you. Keep to the walls where the floor is solid, and test suspicious gaps with a block before stepping.
Handling the mobs
Blazes and wither skeletons patrol the halls. Fight them in open, lit areas where you have room to back up. If a fight goes badly near a ledge, retreat to solid ground first. Clear spawners as you find them so the halls stay quiet on your way back out, and stash your best loot in an ender chest if you have one.
