How to Find a Better Nether Fortress and Navigate Its Three Sections
Better Nether Fortresses replaces the vanilla fortress with a much larger structure split into three connected areas. Knowing what each one looks like helps you decide where to go first.
Spotting the structure from a distance
Fly or bridge outward across the Nether and watch for large bridge networks spanning open lava. These bridges are the outermost layer and are usually your entry point. They connect to a central Keep, which is the dense, room-filled fortress proper. Beneath and around the Keep, stairways and openings lead down into the Lava Halls, the underground portion.
Choosing your route
- Bridge networks: good for a quick pass. Expect scattered spawners, chests, and open combat space. Watch for gaps and blaze fire.
- The Keep: the main loot hub. Explore every room and side corridor; the layout is complex and easy to get lost in, so place torches or blocks at junctions.
- Lava Halls: underground and dangerous. Bring fire resistance and a way to bridge over lava. This is where the deeper rewards sit.
Practical tips
Mark your entry point with a distinctive block so you can find your way back out. Carry blocks for bridging and a bed is useless here, so set up a safe respawn anchor or stash point instead. Clear spawners as you go so backtracking is safer.
