YUNG’s API FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
What does YUNG's API actually do if I can't play it?
It's a library mod, so it doesn't add anything you can see or craft on its own. Instead it provides shared code that other mods use, especially for world generation, structures, and JSON handling. If you have it installed alongside a mod that needs it, that mod will work; on its own it does nothing visible.
How do I know if a mod needs YUNG's API?
Check the mod's dependencies list on its download page or in your mod loader's mod list. Mods like YUNG's Better Caves, Better Mineshafts, Better Portals, Better Strongholds, Better Dungeons, Bridges, Extras, Traveler's Titles, and Paxi all require it. If a mod lists YUNG's API as a required dependency, you need it installed.
Do I need to configure YUNG's API after installing it?
No. It's a background library with no in-game config screen or commands you need to set up. Just having it in your mods folder is enough for the mods that depend on it to function.
Why does my game crash with a 'missing YUNG's API' error?
This means a mod that depends on YUNG's API is installed but the API itself is missing or not loading. Make sure the API file is in your mods folder, matches your Minecraft and mod loader version, and isn't disabled. If it's still crashing, check that you don't have two different versions of the API installed at once.
Will YUNG's API slow down my game or hurt performance?
It's designed to be lightweight and actually improves performance for structure generation through its custom Jigsaw Manager. The math utilities and JSON tools are small and only run when other mods call them. Any lag you see is more likely from the content mods using it than from the API itself.
Can I install YUNG's API on Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge?
Yes, the API is built to work across mod loaders, and its AutoRegistration system is loader-agnostic. Just grab the build that matches your loader and Minecraft version. Mixing a Forge build into a Fabric instance (or vice versa) will cause it not to load.
Does YUNG's API change world generation by itself?
No. It provides tools for world generation, like the Jigsaw Manager and safe structure checks, but it doesn't add or alter any structures on its own. Any world gen changes you see come from the mods that use the API, such as the Better Structures series.
My structures aren't generating — is that YUNG's API's fault?
Usually not directly, since the API only supplies tools. Check that the content mod (like Better Dungeons or Better Mineshafts) is installed and enabled, that you generated a new world or new chunks, and that no other world gen mod is conflicting. If structure mods load but produce nothing, a version mismatch between the API and the content mod is a common cause.
Can I remove YUNG's API if I don't use any YUNG mods?
Yes, if nothing in your mod list depends on it. But remember that Traveler's Titles and Paxi also require it, not just the YUNG's Better series. Removing it while a dependent mod is still installed will crash the game on startup.
Do I need a specific version of YUNG's API for each mod that uses it?
You need a version compatible with both your Minecraft version and the dependent mods. Newer content mods may require a newer API build, while older ones may not work with the latest. If a mod fails to load or crashes referencing the API, updating or downgrading the API to match is the usual fix.
