How to Make Your Mod Configs Restore Automatically After They Get Deleted

Why Configs Disappear

Mod config files can vanish when you update a mod, switch modpacks, clean your instance, or accidentally delete the config folder. Your Options Shall Be Respected can restore them automatically, but only if it has a stored copy to restore from.

Store Copies of Each Config

1. Run the game once with all your mods so every config file is generated.

2. Open each mod's config screen (or edit its config file directly) and set your preferred values.

3. Close the game completely so all files are flushed to disk.

4. Copy the config files you want protected into the mod's defaults directory, preserving the same folder structure and filenames the mod uses.

5. Keep the originals in your live config folder as well.

Test the Restore

Delete one of the live config files and relaunch. The mod should detect the missing file and copy your stored version back into place before the game finishes loading. If the mod's config is itself missing, it may regenerate from its own defaults, so always keep a backup of the defaults folder somewhere safe outside the instance.

Keep It Maintained

Whenever you change a setting you like, update the stored copy too. Otherwise the mod will keep restoring an outdated configuration.
