Using the World Map on Servers, Realms and MultiWorld Setups

What works where

The world map works in singleplayer, multiplayer and on Realms. Each server and each world keeps a separate map, so joining a new server gives you a fresh, empty map that fills in as you play. This is intentional — your singleplayer exploration does not bleed into a server map.

MultiWorld and Lilypad servers

Servers that split the world into multiple dimensions or worlds (common with MultiWorld and Lilypad-style setups) are supported automatically. When you travel to another world on such a server, the map switches to that world's own map instead of overwriting the previous one. If you land somewhere and the map looks blank, you have simply arrived in a world you have not mapped yet — walk around and it will draw itself.

Realms

Realms are supported, including Realms that use MultiWorld. The same per-world separation applies.

Practical tips

  • Do not expect to see other players' explored terrain; the map only records what you have seen.
  • If a server resets a world, its map effectively starts over for that world.
  • Keep waypoints named clearly per server so you do not confuse bases across different worlds.
