Switching Between Cave Mode, Nether and Vanilla Map Styles
Cave and dimension modes
The world map understands that the Nether and cave dimensions are layered, not flat. When you are in such a dimension, the map switches to a cave-style view that shows the terrain you have explored at your current layer rather than a single top-down surface. This means your Nether map fills in as you tunnel and explore, and it will look different from your Overworld map.
If the map looks wrong after changing dimension, close and reopen it — it reloads the correct layer for where you are standing.
Vanilla maps mode
If you prefer the look of ordinary paper maps, enable Vanilla maps mode in the world map settings. The whole map is redrawn in that style, not just newly explored chunks, so you can flip back and forth without losing data.
Texture pack support
Changing your resource pack updates the entire world map's terrain textures, again not just new chunks. If colours look off after a pack change, reopen the map to force a redraw. Terrain texture customisation options let you tweak how biomes and blocks are represented if the defaults are hard to read.
