Making Waypoints and Navigating With Them

Creating a waypoint

Waypoints are the main reason to run the world map alongside the minimap. To make one:

1. Open the world map.

2. Find the spot you want to mark (your current position, a base, a portal, a village).

3. Use the waypoint creation control on the map interface — typically a button or a right-click/click action on the location — and confirm.

Give it a name and pick a colour so it stands out. Waypoints you create appear on the world map and, if Xaero's Minimap is installed, on the minimap too, so you can follow them while walking.

Managing and sharing

  • Open the waypoint list from the map screen to rename, recolour, hide or delete points.
  • Toggle individual waypoints on or off if the map gets cluttered.
  • On servers, waypoints are usually stored per-world/per-server, so your singleplayer markers will not leak into multiplayer.

Navigating

With a waypoint set, the minimap shows a direction indicator and distance, letting you walk straight toward it without opening the full map. This is the fastest way to return to a base after a long mining trip or to find a Nether portal again.
